Unfortunately, the biggest storyline involving the Indianapolis Colts from now until training camp will be the status of Anthony Richardson's shoulder.
Will the six weeks of rest be enough for the third-year QB to be ready to go for training camp, or will he be starting the battle with Daniel Jones behind? Two of the top NFL insiders have shared their thoughts on the situation over the past couple of days, but their information doesn't align, which adds to the ongoing rollercoaster of a situation.
Adam Schefter is skeptical Anthony Richardson will be ready by the start of training camp
ESPN's Adam Schefter appeared on the Pat McAfee show Thursday, and he chimed in on Richardson's shoulder injury and potential status for training camp. Schefter shared the following statement "I will just say that there's a lot of smoke flying around there about the condition of his shoulder, about screws in his shoulder about the soreness in his shoulder, about how long it might last, how long it might last." Not exactly what you want to hear if you are rooting for Richardson to win the starting QB job over Daniel Jones, who the team signed this offseason. Schefter also went on to share that "Every time I go to someone who would be in a position to know, they say no, he's fine, he should be ready for training camp. For right now, it's one of those lingering questions out there. I have questions about whether or not he will be ready for the start of training camp."
Ian Rapoport believes Anthony Richardson will be ready to go by the start of training camp
While Schefter was very skeptical about Richardson being ready for training camp, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport had a very different read on the situation. Rapoport shared that after a follow-up with the surgeon who performed his shoulder surgery, Richardson should be "Fine by training camp." He went in depth on the situation by saying, "I expect both of these QBs (Richardson and Daniel Jones) to be out there very early in training camp," and in terms of his next steps, he shared, "Just rest" and "No surgery." And he finished off his spot with a very confident final statement, "He is expected to be fine by training camp, this is a very good thing for the Colts because this is what they want, health and a real competition at QB, and it sounds like they will get it."
The situation surrounding Richardson's recovery has truly felt like a rollercoaster, with both good and bad news coming out each day. My suggestion to fans would be the same as what Richardson is being told to do: "Just rest." Let this play out, and don't get caught up in the back and forth that is occurring. It doesn't seem like we will have a true resolution for this situation until the team takes the field for the first training camp practice, and we see if Richardson is participating or if he is officially not ready.

The Colts got great news to begin minicamp that multiple teams across the NFL are probably jealous of
Up to this point, all offseason programming for NFL teams has been voluntary. Which means players could choose not to participate without any repercussions from the team. That changed this week as most teams began their mandatory minicamp, the Indianapolis Colts being one. And head coach Shane Steichen had some good news to share during his […]
