Key member of the Colts just took another step closer to leaving the team to join an NFC contender
As each day goes by, it looks less likely that the Colts will be able to keep its coaching staff together for the 2026 season.
The Indianapolis Colts let out a sigh of relief this week as it became apparent they would not lose defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo to a head-coaching job this offseason. The team isn’t out of the woods yet, though, as another member of its coaching staff is getting a lot of attention.
Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter already had one interview for the Philadelphia Eagles’ open OC position. It seems he impressed enough to earn another.
He has now had an in-person interview in addition to his earlier virtual interview. It’s still unclear whether he will land the job, but at this point, he’s clearly viewed as a top candidate.

The Eagles are looking for an offensive coordinator to help them get back to the level of play that earned them a Super Bowl win in 2024. The Colts could have blocked Cooter’s chance to interview in Philly, but Shane Steichen did right by his right-hand man and allowed him the opportunity to go for the job.
If Cooter wants to become a head coach one day, adding play-calling to his resume could be a big deal for the OC. Especially if he could help get the Eagles offense back on track. When Philadelphia’s offense is at its best, we’ve already seen two coaches land head coaching gigs: Shane Steichen (Colts) and Kellen Moore (New Orleans Saints).
The Eagles aren’t the only team with an eye on Cooter, though. John Harbaugh and the New York Giants have also requested to speak with the Colts’ OC. It’s becoming increasingly likely that the Colts will have to hire a new OC. Where there is smoke, there is also usually a fire, and there is plenty of smoke surrounding Cooter and the Eagles right now.
