The Indianapolis Colts got awful news this week, as starting CB Dallis Flowers will miss the rest of the season.
Now, they must make a decision at corner. They have multiple options they could go with, but which is the best?
Possible Options:
Do Nothing

Colts defensive coordinator Gus Bradley stated that both rookie Jaylon Jones and 2nd year CB Darrell Baker Jr. will get the first crack at the team's starting outside CB spot opposite of Julius Brents.
This would be the simplest solution to the Colts current issue, as it wouldn't require any outside move. It also could be the smartest, though.
Near the end of training camp, two of the players the team was praising the most were Jaylon Jones, and Darrell Baker Jr. Baker Jr. started the year as the team's starter before being benched Week 3. And GM Chris Ballard loved what he saw from rookie Jaylon Jones during training camp.
Bring Back a Familiar Face

An option that the Colts could explore that would still lean into the youth of the corner room would be to bring back 2023 draft pick Darius Rush. The Colts made the shocking choice to release Rush when cutting their roster to 53. And he was claimed by the Kansas City Chiefs on the waiver wire. Since then, he has signed with the Chiefs practice squad, which means a team can sign him to their active roster.
With a roster spot at corner looking to be open, I think bringing Rush back would be wise. The team has had a corner be a healthy scratch each week to start the season: Julius Brents the first two weeks and Darrell Baker Jr. the last two. They could bring Rush back for developmental purposes and red-shirt him for this season.
Bring in a veteran:

If the Colts decide they need to add a veteran to the room after losing Dallis Flowers, they could be in luck. There are multiple players with starting boundary CB experience still available on the free agency market.
- Casey Hayward
- Bryon Jones
- William Jackson
- Bradley Roby
- Kyle Fuller
- Greedy Williams
Of this group, Casey Hayward may be the best fit. He has a lengthy past working with Colts defensive coordinator Gus Bradley. However, Hayward looked to have significantly regressed this past season with the Atlanta Falcons.
Byron Jones is the biggest name that is still available. His overall health is a big question surrounding him, though. A post he made earlier this offseason suggested he was retiring due to injury, but a formal announcement never came.
The Colts have multiple roster decisions they will have to make in the coming weeks, with Flowers going to IR, RB Jonathan Taylor coming off PUP, and TE Jelani Woods likely to come off IR in the coming weeks. This makes their decision at CB even more critical, so it'll for sure be something we monitor in the coming days/weeks.
Colts lose starting defender for the season due to injury
Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced that starting Dallis Flowers will miss the rest of the season with an Achilles injury he sustained in Week 4.
