Latest news means Colts have one more thing to worry about
The to-do list is even longer.
While the team continues its search for a franchise quarterback, the Indianapolis Colts have seen a different need on the roster become even bigger.
Parris Campbell is leaving Indianapolis in free agency. The veteran wide receiver has agreed to a one-year, $6.7 million deal with the New York Giants. He gets $3 million guaranteed on the contract.
Campbell signing elsewhere was not unexpected. Still, it does create a bigger hole at wide receiver that the Colts must address. Especially with the expected new face at quarterback next season.
In fairness, the Colts did re-sign wideout Ashton Dulin in free agency. Additionally, Indianapolis features the established Michael Pittman and the rising Alec Pierce as pass-game weapons.
Quarterback will be the priority for the Colts in the first-round. That much is clear. Especially if one of Anthony Richardson, Bryce Young, or CJ Stroud is still on the board for their selection.
However, wide receiver should be near the top of the list, too. The Colts would be wise to use their second- or third-round pick on a weapon for their likely rookie quarterback to get the ball to.
Fortunately, there is a solid crop of pass catchers that the Colts could target in the top-50 picks. That includes the likes of Jaxon Smith-Njigba out of Ohio State, Quentin Johnston from TCU, and USC's Jordan Addison.
Zay Flowers, Josh Downs, and Tank Dell are other receivers that are generating late first-round or early day-two hype. Meaning, the Colts should have plenty of options to consider when their second-round selection arrives.
Regardless of what route the Colts take to address it, adding another receiver is a must. Head coach Shane Steichen is surely focused on that as he brings his offense to Indy.
