Colts offense starts out strong, but Daniel Jones and the passing game went cold down the stretch, and it cost them a win
Colts passing game handed this game to the Chiefs in the fourth quarter and overtime.
The Indianapolis Colts’ passing game got off to a hot start in Week 12. It had to work since the Kansas City Chiefs focused on Jonathan Taylor and the run game all game.
Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo made adjustments, though, and Daniel Jones and the Colts’ passing game had no answers. For the first time this year, it felt like the Colts’ offense truly let down the rest of the team today.
Daniel Jones and the Colts’ passing game handed the Chiefs a win in Week 12
This wasn’t a game where the QB played awful throughout and had multiple turnovers. Instead, the passing game just went ice cold in the fourth quarter. Jones and the Colts had three straight drives to try to ice the game, but went three-and-out each time.
During those drives, the Colts only gave Taylor one rush and chose to put the ball in Jones’ hands instead. This was a questionable choice by head coach and play-caller Shane Steichen. Jones and the passing game have to be better, though. After starting 16-of-20, Jones only completed three of his final 11 passes. This allowed the Chiefs to tie the game and send the game to overtime.
The team chose to start with the ball in overtime, and for a fourth straight time, the offense went three-and-out. The Chiefs then hit Xavier Worthy for a big play and got into FG range.
The Chiefs would ultimately cash in on it and win 23-20, sending the Colts to 8-3. This is three straight weeks when the offense struggled severely at some point in the game. They’d better figure out a fix before it’s too late, as their early-season success will only take them so far.
