The Indianapolis Colts are entering the offseason with a lot of questions surrounding the QB position. They felt like they had finally found at least a multi-year answer in Daniel Jones, who was having a career year, but it was cut short after he tore his right Achilles tendon.

Now, some wonder if he should still be an option for the team this offseason. Philip Rivers got to be around Jones a bit after returning from retirement, trying to replace him. In his opinion, it’s a no-brainer; he thinks Jones should be the QB in Indy in 2026.

Philip Rivers thinks the Colts should bring back Daniel Jones next season, even after his injury

Rivers appeared on the “Up & Adams Show” with Kay Adams this week, where he announced that he would be returning to retirement for good this time, as well as reflecting on what he saw in his return to the NFL. Another topic discussed was the team’s plan at QB in 2026.

“I hope and think that they should bring him (Daniel Jones) back,” Rivers told Adams. “He’s attacking this rehab. I’ll tell you what, he’s been there every day, he’s been in every QB meeting. He was having such an unbelievable year. The guys all love him and respect him, and he seems like a great teammate.

“I think he’s gonna get back healthy and hopefully picks up where he left off. He was playing unbelievably, then he got a broken leg, and he’s out there battling on a broken leg for three weeks. And that was starting to heal up, and then that happens in Jacksonville with his Achilles. I think he will pick up right where he left off and shoot. If he does that, he’s a guy that should be under center here next year, in my opinion.”

It’s interesting to hear that Jones has remained with the Colts as he works through his rehab. A lot of players will leave and begin rehabbing on their own after season-ending injuries, especially players who will be free agents in the offseason, like Jones.

That seems to indicate that he feels he will be back with the Colts in 2026. Achilles tears are not easy to recover from, so there would certainly be a lot of risk on the Colts’ part to not only re-sign Jones but to head into training camp assuming he will be ready to start Week 1. All signs point to that being the Colts’ plan at QB, though, and Rivers seems to think that is the path the team should take as well.
