After an offseason full of drama between the Indianapolis Colts and Jonathan Taylor, we finally heard from the RB.
As for the first time since Taylor's trade request was made public, he spoke with the media Thursday afternoon.
While Taylor didn't give much information, it was the first time this year that the RB gave any answers on his health, his current status with the team, and, of course, he was asked about his trade request.
Below are some of Taylor's presser's biggest questions and answers today. If you would like to watch the presser, click here.
His Health:
Taylor tried to keep most of his answers on the topic of his health, even avoiding questions about other topics to revert to speaking on his health.
Q: When did you get healthy?
"Over the course of this whole offseason. There's never a specific day, because there's always progressions there's always 'hey you have to break through this wall, then you have to break through that next wall' so just being able to maintain that perseverance until you get to achieve the goal that you have"
Q: After how long you've been out from football, do you feel the need to show the Colts that you are healthy and you can get back to those 2021 levels?
"I don't think its a matter of showing the Colts or other teams or players. I think its about yourself, you have people directing you and helping you rehab to get back, but you want to show yourself. I've been working I've been working for a long time for this moment. So I'm going to prove to myself, all those days you felt like you couldn't get another rep in, oh this muscle is sore. We will see where it takes us today."
Trade Request:
This was the main topic that Taylor avoided throughout the presser. But that didn't stop media members from doing their job and asking the question.
Q: Do you want to be a Colt? Have you resended your trade request?
"Number 1, first off, it feels really good to finally be healthy. Number 1 the whole time the main goal was to be healthy. Everyone is in this whole thing's main goal was to be healthy. To go out there and do what I love, which is to play football. Going through that journey throughout this whole time, there's been a lot of things said and done, but at the end of the day, the number 1 overall goal for everybody was for me to get healthy. I think everyone is on the same page with that."
Q: When there was a trade request, how committed are you now to the team? Are you here 100%?
"I don't think it matters if I'm saying I'm committed or not. If someone wasn't committed they wouldn't be here. Right now I'm here and my number one goal is to really attack this first practice its been over 290 days I believe. When you aren't doing what you love, you're going to notice it. It's been over 290 days so my main goal is to attack this first day, yesterday was a walk through so today is a second first day"
Contract Extension:
Another topic Taylor showed no interest in answering was that of his contract disputes.
Q: On the contractional stuff, the trade request, the contracts, all that stuff. Have you liked how your side and the Colt's side handled it?
"I'm not here to get into any contract things those were over the course of this offseason. But the season is here, the Tennesee Titans are on the clock. It's a division game, a division matchup. What are you going to do? Are you going to post up and get ready to defend your house or are you going to fold that's a big emphasis for us this week."
Does he want to be a Colt:
A simple but important question does he want to be a Colt?
Q: Do you want to be a Colt?
"Listen like I said, I'm here right now, and my number 1 thing is to take care of my teammates. A lot of people are worried about what I want what I want. It doesn't matter what necessarily I want. What matters is what this team needs, what this city wants, and what this city needs. And what this city needs is a championship, and while I'm here, that's going to be what I work my tail off to do. And that's what I've worked my tail off to get the opportunity to do. When you've been out for a while you start looking at it, when you have that opportunity and I never took it for granted, and when it's taken away you say 'man that was a great opportunity and I can't wait to have another opportunity"
It's clear fans won't be getting a resolution to this situation with words after that presser full of avoiding questions. But what can give the fans, the Colts, and Jonathan Taylor a resolution all are happy with will be through his play on the field. And that is now what we all must turn our focus towards.
