The Indianapolis Colts offense stayed hot in Week 8, taking down their AFC South rivals, the Tennessee Titans, 38-14. The Colts improved to 7-1 and proved to be one of the NFL’s top offenses. Next up, they hit the road to take on the 4-3 Pittsburgh Steelers, who have lost two straight. And a recent trend with their defense could bode well for Colts QB Daniel Jones.

Steelers’ recent struggles vs. QBs

  • Week 4: Minnesota Vikings Carson Wentz – 30/46 350 yards 2 touchdowns 2 interceptions
  • Week 5: Bye
  • Week 6: Cleveland Browns Dillion Gabriel – 29/52 221 yards
  • Week 7: Cincinnati Bengals Joe Flacco – 31/47 342 yards 3 touchdowns
  • Week 8: Green Bay Packers Jordan Love – 29/37 360 yards 3 touchdowns

Daniel Jones could be in store for a big day against a struggling Steelers pass defense

The last four QBs to face the Steelers have set their season highs in passing yards. Three of the four have thrown for over 300 yards. The only one who didn’t was Browns rookie Dillon Gabriel. Gabriel threw for 221 yards in his fourth NFL start.

That was his first 200+ yard passing game, and he hasn’t reached that threshold since. Jones’ season high came in a Week 2 win vs. the Denver Broncos. He threw for 316 yards, his only game with over 300 passing yards this season.

The Colts’ offense has been just about unstoppable. It leads the NFL in total points through eight weeks with 270. And they have a top-five passing and rushing attack thanks to the strong play of Jones and Jonathan Taylor.

Head coach Shane Steichen has adjusted their offensive game plan each week to exploit their opponent’s weaknesses. With the Steelers’ secondary playing so poorly, expect a heavy dosage of Jones and the Colts’ passing attack. And with the Colts’ abundance of different weapons on offense, it’ll be interesting to see what a creative mind like Steichen’s can come up with.
