The Indianapolis Colts made their stance on Michael Pittman Jr. clear all offseason long, and they proved it by reaching a contract extension.

The Colts and Pittman Jr. agreed to a three-year extension right before the NFL's legal tampering period began.

It was pretty clear which player the Colts viewed as their top priority among their in-house free agents. A team source shared that they were very close to a long-term extension with Pittman Jr. on the deadline day, but there were a few details to hammer out, which resulted in the WR being franchise-tagged.

The Colts were hoping for a four-year deal with Pittman Jr., but in the end, agreed to a three-year deal worth up to $71.5 million with $46 million guaranteed. This deal allows Pittman Jr. to cash in one more time before he turns 30, which I'm told is something Pittman Jr.'s team pushed for in negotiations.

The Colts keeping Pittman Jr. is a big deal in itself, but his yearly number coming in under $24 million is a big win. This is less than I expected the team to end up on, but I'm sure the Colts compromising to a three-year deal instead of the four they preferred probably lowered the yearly number for them.
