The Indianapolis Colts’ joint practice with the Baltimore Ravens saw multiple players step up to the occasion and show what they can do.

One of them was Colts’ 7th round rookie Hunter Wohler, who finished practice with not one but two interceptions, one of which came off a throw from former NFL MVP Lamar Jackson.

The Colts’ final pick of their 2025 NFL Draft class was Hunter Wohler in the seventh round. While he was selected in the final round, he was one of the most talked about members of the Colts’ rookie class after the draft concluded. The reason for this is the team’s choice of listing Wohler as an LB instead of the position he played in college, safety.

Before training camp even began, though, Wohler shared that the plan was for him to start out solely at safety. Since camp started, his primary position has been safety, but he has also seen time at LB. During the Colts’ joint practice session with the Ravens, he spent time at both spots. What made his two interceptions even more interesting is that he caught one playing each position. Wohler is already making good progress on earning a spot on the Colts’ initial 53-man roster. If he also wants to have a prominent defensive role as a rookie, though, there seems to be a larger opportunity available at LB. After Zaire Franklin, there are three players competing to be a starter at safety; the top two seem pretty set in stone, with Camryn Bynum and Nick Cross. So the biggest role available for Wohler to compete for would be the third safety role, which will only be on the field in select packages.
