It seems each day we get closer to an official announcement being made on Indianapolis Colts Anthony Richardson's season ending with surgery to repair his shoulder.
Monday evening, ESPN's Adam Schefter and Stephen Holder shared the newest update directly from Colts owner Jim Irsay.
This report included a story written by Holder from his conversation with Colts owner Jim Irsay. It's a story I strongly suggest fans read as it gives the most significant update on Richardson's next steps to date, as Holder got them straight from Irsay. Irsay had multiple telling quotes that all reveal that Richardson will likely have surgery to repair his shoulder and end his season.
"The most likelihood is he's probably going to be gone for the year, I mean it's not definite but probably misses this year and we're going to have to contend with that factor"
Later, Holder shared an additional report of his own via X (Twitter) to offer more insight on the matter.
Holder shared an additional quote from Irsay that confirms his post above later in his piece.
"There's debate going, but it's probably going to lead toward surgery in the next week or so. We're just truing to figure out exactly how and when and what we want to do and what Anthony wants to do."
So even this report leaves the door cracked as no official decision has been made yet, and it seems that Anthony Richardson will likely get the final say.
The Colts have been getting as many opinions as possible on this front to make the best possible decision for their franchise QB's long-term health. While the door seems cracked, I believe the writing is already on the wall, as it seems multiple opinions they've received point towards surgery being the best way forward for Richardson's recovery.
No one wanted to see his rookie season ending this way, but the team has to prioritize his long-term health over this single season. The Colts may have not gotten to see a full rookie season of Richardson, but I've been told it was enough to impress teammates, coaches, and the front office all to believe this is his team going forward. He will only be 22 by next season, which still gives him plenty of time for him to develop to the heights many in the building believe he is capable of.
