The 2024 NFL season feels closer than ever.
With the Indianapolis Colts's training camp kicking off last week. Fans in attendance have been able to watch three practice sessions so far. The most recent one came on Sunday when Colts rookie WR Adonai Mitchell had arguably the best play of training camp so far.
The Colts' second-round pick, Adonai Mitchell, was pretty quiet during the first two practices. But he made his presence known with this highlight-reel catch during the team's third practice.
This was a one-on-one WR vs CB drill where Mitchell was lined up against CB Dallis Flowers with Anthony Richardson under center to make the throw. In this other angle captured by a fan in the stands, you can see Mitchell beat the speedy CB Flowers off the snap and then make quite the body adjustment in the air to make the diving catch.
After the play, You can also see how pumped Mitchell was, who celebrated with the nearby fans after his helmet was knocked off. One of Mitchell's biggest strengths throughout the draft process was how reliable his hands were in college. He had the lowest drop rate of any WR that had 100 or more targets last season, with him only recording one drop on 103 targets. If he can continue to make plays like this one, he will quickly become a favorite of Colts fans and QB Anthony Richardson. And with him currently in a battle with Alec Pierce for the team's final starting WR job, every play matters for Mitchell in training camp.
