The Indianapolis Colts have already asked multiple rookies to play significant roles this season.

And multiple are answering that call. 3rd round pick Josh Downs specifically has outpaced a franchise great with his play through the first five weeks.

Downs has more receptions through his first NFL games than any Colts WR ever. Passing the franchise's greatest WR in that process adds to how impressive this feat is.

What a stamp to add to Downs coming off the best week of his young career after hauling in six receptions for 97 yards against the Tennesee Titans. Downs has the second most receptions and yards on the Colts this season, only behind veteran Michael Pittman Jr.

To better give context to Downs strong start to his career, I thought it would be nice to show Margvin Harrison's end-of-year stat line after his rookie season.

1996: 64 receptions, 836 yards, 8 touchdowns

If you take Downs' first five-week pace, he would end the season with the following stat line:

78 receptions, 867 yards, 0 touchdowns

Downs is on pace to have more yards and receptions than franchise great Marvin Harrison did in his rookie season. This will be something we will monitor for the rest of the season. The Colts have to be happy with the early return on investment they are getting with rookie WR Josh Downs.
