The Indianapolis Colts head into the next stage of their offseason this upcoming week. Minicamp begins on Tuesday, providing first-year head coach Shane Steichen with yet another opportunity to install more of what he wants.
Indianapolis recently completed OTAs. Which provided a platform for different players on the roster to emerge. That included veterans looking for a bounce back season, as well as rookies attempting to make their mark.
With minicamp beginning, there are a few players that are worth watching closely. A pair of ascending rookies primed to play significant roles in year-one headline the group.
Anthony Richardson has to be included. All eyes are on the rookie quarterback as he progresses leading up to his first season in the NFL. Richardson has flashed exciting upside already, but he's also looked like an inexperienced quarterback at times, too.
Richardson is competing with Gardner Minshew for the starting quarterback role once the 2023 NFL season kicks off in September. Minicamp gives the rookie another opportunity to develop his craft and impress the coaching staff.
If Richardson is generating the most hype for the Colts so far, fellow rookie Darius Rush is not too far behind him. Rush is already turning heads for Indianapolis from his cornerback position, even grabbing an interception during OTAs.
Rush is a 6-foot-2 corner with 4.3 speed in the secondary. Especially considering the recent development involving Isaiah Rogers, the first-year corner should be able to use minicamp as another platform to earn early reps.
Moving away from the rookies, Kylen Granson is another player on the Colts roster that is making the most of the offseason. In fact, Shane Steichen recently spoke highly of Granson and what he brings to the table.
Granson is entering his third season in the NFL. He's already impressed the new coaching staff and is creating a connection with both Richardson and Minshew. He has a chance to keep the momentum rolling into minicamp.
