The Indianapolis Colts have arguably the most important game of their season coming up, as they host the Houston Texans in Week 13.

They now know they will have to go into this matchup without one of their most underappreciated players. As the team has placed special teams ace and key depth WR Ashton Dulin on the IR. To replace him, the team is turning to a familiar face from the past who earned a First-Team All-Pro honor during his first stint with the Colts.

Colts sign George Odum to the active roster after placing Ashton Dulin on IR

Dulin will now be forced to miss at least four games, meaning the earliest he could return would be the team’s Week 17 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. During his time with the Colts, he’s become one of the most reliable special teamers in the NFL, and this year he’s been a key rotational WR as well.

To help fill the void on special teams, the Colts have signed George Odum to the active roster from their practice squad. Odum began his career with the Colts in 2018 and spent the first three years of his career in Indianapolis. He earned a First-Team All-Pro in 2020 as a special teamer after leading the league in special teams tackles.

He signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 2022 and was able to earn another All-Pro spot, this time on the Second-Team. So it seems the Colts’ plans are for Odum to play a key role on special teams in Dulins’ absence. The team will have to look elsewhere to fill the hole at WR, though.

The team could give veteran Laaquon Treadwell some extra run on offense. Treadwell is also playing an important role on special teams, but has nice speed that could allow him to do a lot of the same things Dulin was being asked to do at WR. Other options would include the Colts elevating a player off their practice squad. They have 3 WRs on the practice squad: D.J. Montgomery, Coleman Owen, and Eli Pancol.
