Colts lose rookie DB Jaylin Simpson to the Jets

The Colts drafted Simpson with the 164th pick in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Simpson spent his entire five-year career at Auburn, where he played both safety and cornerback.
Both positions were needs for the Colts heading into training camp, which led many to believe Simpson had a good shot of making the team's initial 53-man roster. However, the Colts elected to waive Simpson as part of their moves down to 53.
He cleared waivers and rejoined the Colts on their practice squad. And that is where he stayed up until this point. He never spent time on the Colt's active roster, which now gives him the shot to make his regular-season debut in the NFL with the Jets. I'm sure the Colts would have loved to keep Simpson around and see if he improved during next year's training camp, but it looks like they won't be getting that chance after all.
