Colts sign former Bears and Bengals RB Khalil Herbert in free agency
The Chicago Bears drafted Herbert in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent his first four years with the team before being traded to the Cincinnati Bengals in the middle of the 2024 season. During his time in Chicago, he started 13 games, nine of which came in 2023. His best season came in 2022, though, when he turned 129 rushes into 731 yards (5.7 yards per rush) and four touchdowns.
He has been known to be a solid pass catcher, which will be a welcomed addition to the Colts. He has 53 career catches during 56 total games. While this is a solid move for the Colts' depth at RB, I don't believe this will stop the team from using the 2025 NFL Draft, which is believed to have one of the deepest RB groups that the NFL has seen in recent draft years.

A to Z Sports Bears' beat writer Kole Noble had some thoughts to share on Herbert from his time covering his time in Chicago.
Khalil Herbert certainly brought a lot of juice to the Bears offense prior to the 2024 season and was a huge part in leading one of the league's top rushing attacks during the Justin Fields Era.
However, Herbert's impact quickly diminished in Chicago after the Bears went out to acquire D'Andre Swift as the featured back in 2024. Just because he fell out of the picture in Chicago doesn't mean his level of play fell off.
Herbert's career 4.8 yards per carry illustrates the level of burst and explosiveness he can add to an offense when given the opportunity.
