Following the 2024 season, the Indianapolis Colts decided they needed a change on the defensive side of the ball, so they parted ways with defensive coordinator Gus Bradley.
After an extensive search involving multiple impressive candidates, the Colts hired Lou Anarumo as their new defensive coordinator, pointing to a drastic change in the team's defensive philosophy.
Anarumo is known as a secondary guru. The team has already made a big hire in that department, with respected secondary coach Chris Hewitt joining his staff. Now, the Colts are poaching a secondary coach from the New York Giants.
Colts set to hire Giants DBs coach Jerome Henderson on Lou Anarumo's defensive staff

The Colts are reportedly hiring Giants defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator Jerome Henderson. Henderson has been with the Giants since 2020 and added the title of passing game coordinator last season. Before joining the Giants, he worked with the Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, and New York Jets in the NFL from 2006 to the present.
The Giants respected Henderson so much that they interviewed him for their open defensive coordinator position before adding passing game coordinator to his job title. Even though he didn't get that job, they gave him a slight promotion to keep him around. That seems only to have lasted a year, though, as he is now set to join the Colts. As you read above, the Colts have already hired Chris Hewitt to be their passing game coordinator and secondary coach, which makes this hiring of Henderson so interesting.
He won't be joining the Colts with the same title he had with the Giants. And any other title they could give him would seem to be a demotion from his most recent role with the Giants. While we wait to see his exact title, there is still a clear pattern with the Colts' hires. They have now added three defensive coaches whose expertise in the NFL is in the secondary. It seems safe to assume that the Colts are planning on making some significant changes in their secondary. This also seems to fit their roster, with them having a clear need for safety and corner.

The Indianapolis Colts are one of the few teams that it feels like mock drafters are all in agreement on the best path for them to take in the 2025 NFL Mock Draft. Tight end and secondary are the far and away most popular projected selections made for the Colts. A new A to Z […]
Should the Colts sign Aaron Rodgers this offseason to start over Anthony Richardson for the 2025 season?
This week, the NFL world received some big news. The New York Jets announced that they will be moving on from veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who will become a free agent this offseason. This past season was certainly an up-and-down experience for second-year QB Anthony Richardson. So, should the Colts be the team to sign Rodgers, […]
