The Indianapolis Colts need to make some changes after their recent rough patch of the season. They’ve lost three of their last four games and have fallen from the top seed in the AFC and the AFC South, and desperately need to get back on track because their season is falling off the rails.

Their most recent loss came against the Houston Texans in Week 12. Multiple issues hindered their ability to pull out the win, but yet another missed extra point by Michael Badgley looms large. Colts head coach Shane Steichen was asked if the team would be making a change at kickers, and his answer certainly wasn’t no.

In fact, he said he would defer to GM Chris Ballard and his staff on that topic.

Colts seem to be considering making a change at kicker

That answer from Steichen certainly sounds like the team is planning to at least look into other kicker options. So I would expect to see kickers brought in for workouts by the Colts to test the waters on making a change at kicker. ESPN’s Stephen Holder all but confirmed that belief as well.

It’s not been a terrible stint with the Colts for Badgley by any means. He’s made 10 of his 11 field goal attempts, but his three missed extra points in only seven games are a real problem. One play doesn’t lose you a game, but this past week, the missed extra point played a significant role in putting the Colts in a rough position late in the fourth quarter.

Pressure is on Badgley to show the team he is a better option than whoever they could bring in this week. Many may think missing extra points isn’t a big deal. If it were just a one-off, I’d agree, but three in seven games is a problem. One that the team seems to be taking seriously enough to explore other solutions that aren’t Badgley.
