The entire NFL was sent into a frenzy after the Baltimore Ravens announced the firing of legendary head coach John Harbaugh. Harbaugh seems like a lock to make the Hall of Fame when his career ends, so seeing a team fire someone of that magnitude is jaw-dropping.

The Indianapolis Colts made no changes at the top of their leadership structure, as head coach Shane Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard are returning for the 2026 season. That was before Harbaugh’s firing, though, so now you have to wonder whether the Colts will consider bringing on the Super Bowl-winning head coach.

Should the Colts consider hiring former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh?

Some may think the Colts should make a play for Harbaugh, but I don’t think it would be worth it. First of all, it’s pretty clear that he will be treated as the top candidate of the cycle and will likely have his choice of jobs. Even if the Colts have interest, they would need to take a hard look in the mirror and be honest with themselves. They are not considered a premier job in the NFL.

The team has a questionable plan at QB, with Daniel Jones, the most likely starter for 2026, fresh off a torn right Achilles tendon. The team also does not own its own first-round selection for the next two years. Pair that with the fact that the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars seem to be emerging contenders in the AFC.

Interestingly, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter shared that seven NFL teams have contacted Harbaugh since his firing. There are seven jobs open, including his previous job with the Ravens. This means that at least one team, which already has a head coach, has reached out, a fact Schefter confirmed. Due to the reasons I mentioned above, though, I doubt the Colts are one of them. Steichen will be the Colts’ head coach, and that’s a good thing.
