Colts sign 1st round pick Anthony Richardson
Anthony Richardson signs his Rookie Contract
Monday afternoon, the Indianapolis Colts signed the remaining members of their 2023 draft class. Saving the best for last with 1st round pick Anthony Richardson. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to share the news, including Richardson's $21.72 million dollar signing bonus being paid 100% upfront.
The Indianapolis Colts used their highest draft pick since 2011, the 4th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft on quarterback Anthony Richardson out of the University of Florida. The hope is that Richardson can be the long term answer at the QB position. An answer the Colts have been looking for ever since the shocking retirement of Andrew Luck, which has had the team on a veteran carousel with the likes of Jacoby Brissett, Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, and Matt Ryan.
Richardson to many during the NFL draft process was viewed as a "project", due to him only starting 13 college games for the Gators. In his short stint as the Gators starter though his next-level athleticism was evident on tape, and he backed it up with an unreal performance at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Which would lead to him earning the highest athletic score for a QB ever according to RAS.football
All eyes now look ahead to Colts training camp. Where Richardson will begin a battle with free agency signing Gardner Minshew to be the teams week 1 starter. Which will get started Wednesday July 26th when the rookies and veterans are set to report to Westfield, Indiana with a sold out crowd in attendance.
