The injuries piling up in the Indianapolis Colts’ CB room have been disappointing. Four players previously expected to be starters or play key snaps are on the IR, and Kenny Moore II just recently returned to the field in Week 7 after missing the previous three games.

As uncertainty grows about how long their banged-up CB room can remain sustainable, the team elected to bring back a familiar face.

The team announced they signed cornerback David Long Jr. to their practice squad. This is a reunion for Long, who spent most of last season in Indianapolis. Considering his role last year, he could be called up on game day and make an impact faster than many realize.

Long Jr. began his career with the Los Angeles Rams in 2019 after being selected in the third round of the NFL Draft. He spent the first four and a half seasons with the Rams, starting 10 games. He then jumped around the league, spending time with the Las Vegas Raiders, Carolina Panthers, and Green Bay Packers.

Most recently, he spent 13 games on the Colts’ active roster in 2024. They didn’t utilize him on defense, though, like he has been used for most of his career. He spent nearly all his snaps on special teams, 106 of his 115 to be exact.

The Colts run a new defense this year, though, which could lead them to give him a shot if Lou Anarumo thinks he’s a decent fit. However, his special teams role from last year would be easy to step into whenever his number is called upon. And with the amount of CB injuries affecting the Colts, he certainly is an option to be called up to the active roster in the coming weeks.
