The Indianapolis Colts held a fairly large workout on Monday that included seven players. Six of which were CBs after a rough showing from the group in Week 2. Ironically, the Colts made it official today that they are signing the only non-CB from Monday’s workout.

The team announced that they signed Jimmy Morrissey to the practice squad. Morrissey is a center, which is not a position anyone expected the Colts to make a move at ahead of their Week 3 matchup against the Tennessee Titans.

The Las Vegas Raiders drafted Morrissey in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He ended up making his regular-season debut during his rookie season, but with the Colts’ AFC South rival, the Houston Texans. He spent all three years of his career with the Texans, where he appeared in 14 games and started four.

He didn’t dress in a regular-season game last season but was on the New York Giants’ practice squad all of 2024 and spent training camp with the team before not making their 53-man roster. The Colts have Tanor Bortolini as their starter and Danny Pinter as his backup. If an injury occurs to either, Morrissey could get his shot to find himself on an NFL active roster once again.

The Colts also filled their final 53-man roster spot, which was created by placing Jaylon Jones on IR. They announced that they have signed LB Austin Ajiake off their practice squad. Ajiake had a solid training camp and had a real shot at making the roster, but ended up being one of their final cuts to get down to 53. He didn’t have to wait long to get his chance on the active roster, though, as he got his shot just three weeks into the year.
