The Indianapolis Colts traded away Stephon Gilmore and released Matt Ryan. After a busy day of players leaving the roster, the Colts made a move to add to the roster, too.

Defensive end Samson Ebukam has inked with the Colts, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal will be for three years as Indianapolis bolsters a strength on the roster in free agency.

Ebukam arrives in Indianapolis after playing in California for the first six years of his NFL career. He spent four seasons with the Los Angeles Rams before moving over to the San Francisco 49ers for the past two years.

The newest Colts defensive end started 15 games for the 49ers during the 2022 campaign. He made 36 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, and five sacks in his last year on the West Coast.

He showcased the ability to be effective rushing the passer over the last two seasons while playing for the Niners. As matter of fact, Ebukam enjoyed a bit of a breakout campaign this past year.

Indianapolis already features some standout players in the defensive front. That includes defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, defensive end Kwity Paye, and linebacker Shaq Leonard. Adding Ebukam to that equation has the chance to be significant for Indianapolis.

In the meantime, the Colts will need to find a way to bolster the defensive backfield after trading away Gilmore to the Dallas Cowboys. Perhaps the Colts are thinking strengthening the defensive front will help the unit as a whole.

This was the first big move that the Indianapolis Colts have made to improve the roster this offseason.
