The Indianapolis Colts top priority ahead of the NFL’s legal tampering period starting on Monday is clear to the entire world at this point. They have to do everything in their power to keep wide receiver Alec Pierce from testing the market.

The team chose to use the transition tag on quarterback Daniel Jones and, in turn, opened the door for Pierce to see what is out there for him on the open market. A risky and foolish decision by the Colts, if you ask me, that could end up having devastating consequences.

One-star Colts player understands the high stakes and said he is willing to go to great lengths to keep Pierce in Indy, even if his methods would be considered illegal.

Sauce Gardner shares his hilarious plan to help keep Alec Pierce with the Colts

The Colts acquired corner Sauce Gardner ahead of the trade deadline last season, and he’s already sharing how he is going to help the team keep their top free agent in Indianapolis. Gardner asked fans the following: Should I lock Alec Pierce in my basement and force him to sign the contract papers?”

While it’s the thought that counts here, I think I will speak for the Colts when I say Gardner doesn’t need to resort to kidnapping Pierce. This is clearly a joke by Gardner, but of course, he wants Pierce to stick around. The two just became college teammates again in the NFL after playing together at the University of Cincinnati from 2019 to 2021, before both were selected in the 2022 NFL Draft.

The two have remained close without being NFL teamamtes for the first four years of their careers, for example playing golf together during their free time in the offseason. If Pierce inks an extension with the Colts, the two would both be key parts of the team’s future and would likely be teammates for the foreseeable future.

The outlook of the Colts’ WR room and offense as a whole without Pierce is pretty grim. The team would have no deep threat to take the top off the defense and keep defenses on their toes.

Jones’ deep ball, in my opinion, is a weakness in his game at this stage of his career, and for that reason, I think Pierce is detrimental to the Colts’ offense, providing that much-needed explosive element. Like Gardner, we will have to wait and see if the Colts can get a contract done in time, but they will have to do so without the CB locking Pierce in his basement.
