The Indianapolis Colts' regular season is set to begin on Sunday, September 10th, at home v.s. the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Currently, the team only has two healthy RBs on their roster, Deon Jackson and Evan Hull.

Jonathan Taylor is on the PUP list and set to at least miss the first four weeks of the season. And Zack Moss is recovering from a broken arm he suffered early on in the team's training camp.

With only two active RBs on the roster, the Colts will have to make some kind of move by the time Week 1 is here. One option would be just calling up a RB currently on their practice squad, which would give the starting RB snaps to both Jackson and Hull.

Another option on the table that a team source has shared with me is that the team is still monitoring free agent RB Kareem Hunt. Earlier this week, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that four teams have offered Hunt a contract and that he is still mulling offers and waiting for the "right offer."

One of those four offers is from the Colts from when he visited Indianapolis in August. But the team has remained in contact with Hunt and his representation, and I've been told the team still has "strong interest" in adding the veteran RB to their roster. Their interest is so strong that I believe if a trade would have come together for Jonathan Taylor, Hunt would already be a Colt.

With no end in sight to Jonathan Taylor's hold-in with the Colts, adding a veteran RB should certainly be in consideration. The question now is if Hunt should be that move or if the team should look at an other option on the market.

Notable Free Agent RBs:

  • Leonard Fournette
  • Mark Ingram
