Texans player was shocked to see the Colts do something that directly helped them get the win in Week 13
The Colts played right into the Texans hand by doing something even Houston’s players were shocked to see.
The Indianapolis Colts’ loss to the Houston Texans at home felt like a backbreaker for their 2025 season. The team had the chance to get back on track in front of their home fans, but ultimately they fell short. The team is now 8-4 on the year and has fallen to second in the AFC South.
Thankfully, they still control their own destiny. They are still .5 game ahead of the Texans and play them again this season. More importantly, they also play the current first-place Jacksonville Jaguars twice before the end of the year. If they are going to get back in the win collum though they’d be wise to listen to one Texans player who shared that he was surprised that the Colts didn’t feature Jonathan Taylor more in Week 12.
Texans DT Tim Settle thinks the Colts made a mistake not using Jonathan Taylor more
The Colts are 1-4 in games this season where Taylor doesn’t score a touchdown, and are 7-0 in games where he does. He didn’t score in Week 12 and finished with 21 rushing attempts and three receptions for 85 rushing yards and 36 receiving. Texans DT Tim Settle Jr. shared that he was shocked they didn’t give him the ball more, though.
“When you got a a guy like that (Taylor) you’re expecting them to get him the ball a lot” shared Settle. Taylor averaged just over four yards per carry during the game. So this wasn’t the same as the Colts’ loss to the Chiefs, where they were essentially forced away from their rushing attack due to its ineffectiveness. So, I tend to agree with Settle that the Colts should have leaned more on Taylor and the run game in this one, especially early on.
This is two weeks in a row where there is criticism of Shane Steichen not funneling more of the offensive workload through Taylor. The Texans being up on the scoreboard throughout the day also played a factor of course but I think Settle said it best by saying “That’s on them for not getting him the ball enough. But that’s on us for capitalizing when we needed to capitalize.” The Colts are playing one of the best run defenses in the league this week against the Jaguars, so they will need to get creative in how they put the ball in Taylor’s hand. However, it’s still crucial that they find a way to make him and the run game effective, because it feels like the season is on the line.
