A popular move made by NFL teams once they decide that their young QB is the real deal is acquiring a weapon via trade.

It's still early for Indianapolis Colts rookie QB Anthony Richardson, but he's already impressed teammates and coaches with his play. Could this lead the team to make a move for a player fans are begging the team to trade for?

McLaurin is one of two WRs I've been told the Colts have had extensive interest in over the past year (the other I've shared before being Jerry Jeudy), making this seem more realistic than the average fan-led trade idea.

Recent star WR Trades in the NFL

For comparison purposes, let's look at recent star WRs to be traded in the NFL and the compensation.

DJ Moore to the Bears:

  • Chicago Bears receive: DJ Moore, 2023 1st round pick, 2023 2nd round pick, 2024 1st round pick, and 2025 2nd round pick
  • Carolina Panthers receive: 2023 1st round pick (1st overall)

A.J. Brown to the Eagles:

  • Philadelphia Eagles receive: A.J. Brown
  • Tennessee Titans receive: 2022 1st round pick and 2022 3rd round pick

Davante Adams to the Raiders:

  • Las Vegas Raiders receive: Davante Adams
  • Green Bay Packers receive: 2022 1st round pick and 2022 2nd round pick

Stefon Diggs to the Bills:

  • Buffalo Bills receive: Stefon Diggs and 2020 7th round pick (239th overall)
  • Minnesota Vikings receive: 2020 1st round pick, 2020 5th round pick, 2020 6th round pick, and a 2021 4th round pick

Potential Colts trade packages for McLaurin:

The idea of bringing Indiana native Terry McLaurin back home to join an offense with Anthony Richardson and Michael Pittman Jr. is very enticing. But would would it cost the Colts? Here are three trade packages that could get it done.

  • Indianapolis Colts send: 2024 1st round pick
  • Washington Commanders send: Terry McLaurin

A simple 2024 first for McLaurin is probably the most likely trade package. The question would be whether or not the Colts would be willing to part with a 2024 first in a stacked upcoming draft class.

  • Indianapolis Colts send: 2024 2nd round pick, 2024 4th round pick, 2025 3rd round pick
  • Washington Commanders send: Terry McLaurin

This is an offer I think the Colts would be more inclined to do to keep their 2024 first and give more picks to the Commanders. But I could see Washington not thinking this is enough for their star WR.

  • Indianapolis Colts send: Jonathan Taylor, 2023 3rd round pick
  • Washington Commanders send: Terry McLaurin

If the Colts end this season, but the issues with Jonathan Taylor remain, I think this trade could be perfect for both sides. The Commanders were one of the teams I was told called about Taylor since the season began, and they would get a pick on top of it for McLaurin.
