A struggling Colts player is becoming a real problem, and the team should consider looking at other options this week

The Colts need to be honest with themselves and admit that it’s not working out for Michael Basgley in his return to Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Colts suffered a brutal loss in Week 13 to the Houston Texans, 20-16. Many things went wrong for the Colts, including early struggles from the offense and losing Sauce Gardner to an injury on the second defensive play. A key moment came in the fourth quarter, when an extra-point attempt by the Texans, which appeared to miss to the left, was ruled good by the officials.

This was an awful call, and it cost the Colts the opportunity to attempt a game-tying field goal. That’s not the only moment to blame, though; a missed extra point by the Colts earlier in the game was equally responsible. This was Michael Badgley’s’ third missed extra point in six games with the Colts this season. Some are wondering if it’s time for the Colts to consider other options at kicker.

The Colts need to bring in kickers for a workout to potentially replace Michael Badgley

To start the season, the Colts saw their homegrown kicker Spencer Shrader having a breakout year. This made it hurt even more when he suffered a devastating season-ending injury, forcing them to sign a new kicker, which led them to Badgley, who had spent time with the Colts in the past.

Bagley has made 10 of his 11 field goals this season, which is great. However, as you read earlier, he has now missed three extra points, two of which occurred in the last three games. The missed extra point against the Texans was the most costly.

The Colts signed Badgley with the hope he would be reliable from inside of 50 yards, and while his struggles haven’t come on field goals, three missed extra points in seven games are unacceptable. The Colts should bring in competition for Badgley this week with the intent of motivating him, but if someone comes in and outperforms him, it may be time for the Colts to go in a different direction.
