Former Colts star is returning to the game of football in a new role that seems like a perfect fit
Colts legend T.Y. Hilton is trading in his helmet and cleats for a clipboard and a whistle to start his second career in football.
Deciding to hang up the cleats after a successful NFL career is hard for any player. They worked their entire life to make it to the league, and once they do, it’s difficult for anyone to let go of it. Once they do, they move on to figuring out what they want their life after football to look like.
Thankfully, multiple careers can allow these former players to still work around the game they have come to love. Some choose to pick up a microphone and work as a TV anaylst or a live game broadcaster. Others pick up a clipboard and a whistle and take up coaching. Former Colts star WR T.Y. Hilton has found his subsequent career in football as he has been named a high school head coach.
Former Colts WR T.Y. Hilton named the head coach of his high school alma mater in Florida
Hilton spent 10 of his 11 seasons in the NFL with the Colts. He finished his career with 146 games, recording 638 receptions for 9,812 yards and 53 touchdowns. Nearly all of his production came with the Colts, with him recording only seven receptions for 121 yards and zero touchdowns in his final season with the Dallas Cowboys.
He remains a fan favorite, and his numbers make him a true Colts legend. In the team’s record books, Hilton is third all-time in receiving yards behind only Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, who should one day join the Hall of Fame. Hilton is also fourth in receiving touchdowns and receptions behind Harrison, Wayne, and Raymond Berry.
Hilton now embarks on a new football journey, as he has been named the head coach of Miami Springs Senior High School. This is homecoming for Hilton, who graduated from Miami Springs in 2008 before accepting a scholarship to play football at Florida International University, better known as FIU. Hilton recently saw his oldest son achieve a significant accomplishment by earning a scholarship and has just finished his freshman year at Wisconsin. Now, Hilton turns his attention to today’s youth, where he will try to shape a new generation of football stars.
