Colts Week 7 Player of the Week

LB Grant Stuard
On Saturday, the Colts downgraded starting linebacker E.J. Speed to doubtful, and before kickoff, they revealed him to be inactive. After the news, many began to speculate about who the Colts would use to fill Speed's role. Some said rookie Jaylin Carlies could move over from this starting role into Speed's for a larger snap count. The other name popularly brought up was Segun Olubi, who, in the past, seemed to be the first LB off the bench when the Colts needed someone.
The Colts decided to take a different approach by giving special teams ace Grant Stuard the job. And yesterday, he stepped up to the plate and put up a career-best outing to help the Colts get the win. In the post above, he was credited with 17 total tackles, but on Pro Football Reference, he was credited with 19. So I rewatched the game and credited Stuard with 19 total tackles, 11 solo, and one tackle for loss.
Heading into this game, Stuard had logged 105 total snaps this season, all of which came on Special Teams. His first time lining up on defense in 2024 came in a start filling in for Speed. He indeed held his own, as he led both teams in total tackles and had multiple splash plays, leading many watching the game to leave feeling impressed by the fourth-year LB. So, who knows, maybe Stuard has earned the right to see the field on defense going forward. And with Carlies being spotted in a boot and on crutches after the game, there might be some open snaps for the team to figure out.
The Colts did something vs. the Dolphins that if you told me they would do before the season I would have called you a liar
The Indianapolis Colts made the plays needed to pull out a close win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 7. That included them doing something I don't think anyone predicted before the season began. The Colts held the Dolphins WRs Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle in check When the schedule was released, a lot of […]
The Colts finally did something fans have been begging them to do and it helped them pick up the win in Week 7 over the Dolphins
Winning isn't always pretty in the NFL, and that was certainly the case for the Indianpolis Colts, who held on to win an ugly one against the Miami Dolphins. We saw multiple players struggle and multiple highly criticized position groups step up and make plays that ultimately led to a Colts victory in Week 7. Now, […]
