A former first-round pick gets his chance to make a difference for the Colts in Week 10 vs. the Falcons
A big opportunity for a former first round pick to make an impact for the Colts has presented itself.
The NFL trade deadline shook up multiple NFL teams. The Indianapolis Colts landed All-Pro CB Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets, and he is officially making his debut today vs. the Atlanta Falcons. That isn’t the only change for the Colts, though.
As part of that trade, the Colts sent WR Adonai Mitchell to New York. This opened up a spot on the active roster and on game day for another WR to land a bigger role. The team turned to a former first-round pick and preseason star over the last two years.
Colts Week 10 inactives
- Samson Ebukam, Edge
- DJ Giddens, RB (healthy inactive)
- Anthony Gould, WR
- Tyquan Lewis, Edge
- Reuben Lowery III, S (healthy inactive)
- Will Mallory, TE (healthy inactive)
- Luke Tenuta, OT (healthy inactive)
After moving Mitchell and placing DeForest Buckner on the IR, the team signed former first-round pick Laquon Treadwell to their active roster. He is active today and will serve as WR5, but his biggest role will be on special teams. Treadwell was a preseason star as a WR playing against backups, but he hasn’t made an impact on special teams anytime his number has been called over the last two seasons.
With Gould also injured and Mitchell traded, this is likely the biggest opportunity Treadwell will have to prove he should be active every single week now that he’s on the active roster. I’ll be interested to see if Treadwell gets any run as a returner and a gunner on special teams today. The team needs to take Josh Downs off returns to keep him healthy to play WR, and Treadwell is another player with experience in that area who is ready to help the team.

The Colts might have overpaid in their trade for All Pro CB Sauce Gardner but I don’t think that’s actually a bad thing
The Colts did something many teams wouldn’t have done by trading two firsts for Sauce Gardner, but that doesn’t mean they did the wrong thing.
