Current Trends:
Jaguars:
The Jaguars are coming off two straight wins during their trip overseas to London, England, with wins over the Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills. When teams come off international games, they are given the choice of going into their bye week or playing an opponent. The Jaguars chose to push off their bye and play the Colts at home this week. I'm sure one of the reasons for this decision is that the Jaguars have won eight straight games at home vs the Colts. The Jaguars came in at 7th on A to Z Sports' Week 6 NFL Power Rankings. According to Pro Football Focus, the Jaguars have graded out as the 18th-best offense and 20th-best defense.
Colts:
The Colts come into this one following their 23-16 Week 5 win over the Tennesee Titans. They now head into Jacksonville a place, they have lost eight straight matchups, with their last win coming in 2014. The Colts came in at 17th on A to Z Sports' Week 6 NFL Power Rankings. According to Pro Football Focus, the Colts have graded out as the 26th-best offense and 23rd-best defense.
Opponent Player Spotlight of the Week:
Josh Allen
Edge rusher Josh Allen is the Jaguars current sack leader with six on the year. Three of those sacks came Week 1 vs the Colts. The Colts will be without starting RT Braden Smith in this one, which will put rookie Blake Freeland back in the starting lineup. I expect the Jaguars to test Feeland early by lining Allen up over top of him. Freeland's ability to contain Allen will play dividends towards the teams goal of ending their losing curse in Jacksonville.
Colts Player Spotlight of the Week:
Gardner Minshew
Jacksonville know Minshew Mania all too well as the Jaguars drafted QB Gardner Minshew with the 178th pick in the 6th round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He will now return to Jacksonville on the opposite side of the field as the starting QB with the Colts. Minshew is 3-0 when he has had to operate as the teams starter for more than a half this season. And now will put his undefeated record up against the Colts long drought in Jacksonville. Head coach Shane Steichen has been very impressive at adjusting his offense with two very different styles of QBs this season with Anthony Richardson and Gardner Minshew. Minshew and Steichen led the Colts into Baltimore Week 3 and came out with the overtime win, and now will look to do it yet again with the top spot in the AFC South on the line.
My Predictions:
Prediction: Juju Brents gets first career interception
The Colts have seen their rookie corner Juju Brents improve each week since becoming a starter. And I think he takes that next step this week. The lengthy corner is already attempting to bate QBs into thinking there's a bigger opening than there actually is, and this week I think it turns into a turnover for the Colts and the rookie's first interception of his young career.
Prediction: Josh Downs gets first career touchdowns
Josh Downs is coming off his biggest statistical day of his young career. Aftering catching six balls for 97 yards. If it weren't for a pentaly negating a seventh catch he would have had his first 100 yard game. I think Downs will continue his strong play into this week, and will find the endzone for the first time in his career. Downs has been a player who has done well with both Richardson and Minshew, so I don't think the absence of Richardson will impact him as much as it may others.
Score Prediction: Colts lose a close one 23-20
As much as I'd love to predict that the Colts drought in Jacksonville comes to an end, I don't think it happens this week. I think this should be another close game for the Colts, but I think the Jaguars familiarity with Minshew could end up playing in their favor in this one. I think this one will be won on the defensive end, if one defense can win their team the turnover battle they will win this one.
