The Colts pulled out the win in Week 4, but it might have cost them a star player for a few weeks

The Indianapolis Colts fought off a late surge from the Pittsburgh Steelers to hold on and win their Week 4 matchup by a score of 27 to 24.

Of course, the talk of the game was starting quarterback Anthony Richardson being ruled out of the game early due to a hip injury

But that's not the only injury the Colts suffered in Week 4 that they are having to monitor this week. Star RB Jonathan Taylor was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain.

Jonathan Taylor is dealing with an ankle injury following Week 4

At this point, the Colts know a thing or two about high ankle sprains. Second-year WR Josh Downs missed the entire preseason, most of training camp, and the first two weeks of the regular season after suffering a high ankle sprain in practice. And the team placed star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner on the injured reserve list following him suffering a high ankle sprain in the team's Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Downs' return to the field took roughly 6-7 weeks, and the Colts felt strong enough about Buckner's injury to place him on the IR, which will force him to miss at least four weeks. On the bright side, NFL Network's Ian Rappoport shared that Taylor's injury is believed to be a pretty mild high ankle sprain, and a team source shared, "He's okay."

Taylor is off to a hot start in 2024, with over 100 yards from scrimmage in three of the team's four games to start the year. The only game he didn't reach that mark came during their Week 1 loss to the Houston Texans. He's also already found the endzone four times. A stable contributor like Taylor in the run game is a young QB's best friend. It takes pressure off the passing game to be the "savior" of the offense.

If Taylor has to miss time, it would be a massive blow to the Colts' offense, which looked like it was starting to click against one of the best defenses in the NFL, the Steelers, before Richardson had to leave the game. And their upcoming stretch is crucial for the outlook of their 2024 season. If he had to be placed on the IR this week, for instance, he would have to miss the next four games, three of which come against divisional opponents, all of which are on the road.

Let's hope "he's okay" means he doesn't have to land on the IR because the Colts' running game could potentially fall off the cliff if they have to go from Taylor to Trey Sermon at this time. For now, we will have to wait and see, but we will know more when the team takes the practice field this week and whether or not Taylor can test his ankle ahead of Week 5 to give him a chance to play in Jacksonville.
