The Indianapolis Colts have officially announced their initial 53-man roster.
The most puzzling move made by the team was the decision to waive 2023 5th-round pick CB Darius Rush.
The Colts made the decision to keep six corners over rookie Darius Rush, two of note being fellow rookie 7th-round pick Jaylon Jones and veteran Tony Brown. Jones had certainly earned a spot on the roster and jumped Rush while he missed time with an injury.
Tony Brown is a solid special teams player for the Colts and likely earned the spot because of it. I believe the more strategic route for the Colts would have been to release Tony Brown, who would not be subject to waivers. Then, after the roster shuffling over the next few days is complete, look to add Brown back without any consequences.
Instead, the Colts elect to put their 5th-round pick at risk of any of the other 31 teams across the NFL to claim on the waiver wire tomorrow. A player who has only been playing the CB position a short time, and growing pains were expected for his transition to the NFL, but his high ceiling and impressive ball skills were evident.
The Colts and their fans will find out if Rush was claimed by another team tomorrow when the wavier wire transactions are announced.
