The Indianapolis Colts elevated two players from their practice squad ahead of their Week 1 matchup against the Houston Texans.

One of the moves seems to be pointing toward starting kicker Matt Gay, missing this week's game after not practicing this week due to him dealing with a hernia.

The Colts announced that they elevated kicker Spencer Shrader and cornerback Chris Lammons to the active roster. Both are eligible to have this done three times during the regular season before having to be called up permanently to their active roster.

Shrader is a rookie kicker who spent training camp and the preseason with the Colts after a five-year college career at South Florida (four years) and Notre Dame (one year). This move was made by the Colts just in case Gay can't go, which would result in Shrader taking over as the starting kicker for Week 1. If the Colts decide Gay can suit up this week, Shrader would most likely end up being listed as inactive.

Lammons is a great special teamer and had a solid preseason playing out of the slot. He will likely serve as the backup slot CB to Kenny Moore II, with the only other option being newly added CB Samuel Womack III. I'm assuming the Colts wouldn't use one of their call-ups on Lammons without the intention of him suiting up. So, I'd expect him to have a large special teams role in Week 1 with the potential to log snaps out of the slot on the defense if needed.
