Colts on the wrong end of an embarrassing officiating mistake during their Week 13 loss to the Texans
The refs got a call wrong that is truly unacceptable and it played a factor in the Colts’ Week 13 loss to the Texans.
The Indianapolis Colts have now lost three of their last four games, as they were unable to get the job done against their AFC South rivals, the Houston Texans. They are now 8-4 and have fallen to second in the AFC South behind the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The team made too many mistakes in Week 13 and have to blame themselves for the loss first and foremost. That doesn’t mean there isn’t anything else to blame, and even though people hate to talk about it, the officiating crew played a factor today. Multiple poor calls put the Colts in a bad spot, but one of them was flat-out an embarrassment.
Texans missed an extra point in Week 13 ruled in by officials
Early in the fourth quarter, the Texans had a drive extended after a terrible pass interference call on Kenny Moore II, and they cashed in on a touchdown. To make things worse, the Texans’ extra point attempt seemed to miss to the left, but the officials ruled it good.
Further review made it clear that it was a missed extra point, but the broadcast crew shared that it is not a reviewable play because it was over the upright. Therefore, the Texans were awarded the point and made it a 20-16 game. The Colts then drove down the field and were very much in field goal range, but we’re forced to go for it on fourth down, due to now being down four, and they turned it over on downs.
At worst, the Colts are tied with a good shot at overtime with the correct call on the extra point. And they are in a position to win the game outright if the pass interference on Moore II wasn’t called. 19 points won’t win you many games in this league, but today it likely would have for the Colts, if not for the officials.
