The Indianapolis Colts’ choice to sign Philip Rivers caused quite the commotion across the NFL this week. Not only did they sign him, but they chose to name him their starter against one of the best defenses in the NFL, the Seattle Seahawks, in Week 15.

Throughout the game, it was clear how limited the Colts’ offense would be with Rivers under center, but he also showed why they made this move. Rivers’ mind helped put the Colts in position to make plays throughout the game. He took hits and got back up. He even threw a touchdown pass, something the Seahawks defense hadn’t allowed in back-to-back weeks ahead of this game.

Philip Rivers deserves a ton of credit for saying yes to the Colts’ insane request and delivering a gutsy performance in Week 15

The Colts didn’t get the result they wanted in this one, as they lost their fourth straight game, 18-16, to the Seahawks. You can’t accuse this team of not fighting, though. With everything stacked against them and so much talent down due to injuries, they led most of the way, but unfortunately, not all good stories have happy endings.

Rivers deserves a ton of credit for just saying yes to the Colts’ request for him to come out of retirement. He also deserves credit for a gutsy performance. He finished 18-of-27 for 120 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Far from a perfect stat line, but doing this after five years out of the league and less than a week of preparation was genuinely inspiring to watch.

The reality, however, is that the Colts have now lost four straight games, and their offense will be significantly limited going forward. Today, they had a lot of quick throws behind the line of scrimmage, but to win most games, you must push the ball downfield.

They need to figure out a more plausible solution ahead of Week 16 as the 8-6 Colts are set to host a talented San Francisco 49ers team for Monday Night Football.
