The 3-0 Indianapolis Colts are traveling across the country this week to take on the 2-1 Los Angeles Rams in Week 4. The team has multiple players dealing with injuries, and following Friday’s practice, they released the status for each player on their injury report. Unfortunately, the team didn’t have great news to share as they will be without multiple key starters for this matchup.

The Colts ruled three starters out for this matchup: RG Matt Goncalves, CB Kenny Moore II, and WR Alec Pierce. With Goncalves out, the team will turn to second-year player Dalton Tucker to start in his place. Tucker had some solid flashes during his rookie year, but his pass protection was a significant struggle. He excelled in run protection, which could lead the team to lean even more on Jonathan Taylor and their run game. Taylor is already leading the NFL in yards, and could now see an increase in his workload. Take note, fantasy football players.

The Colts will also be without their top deep threat WR, Alec Pierce, who entered the NFL’s concussion protocol this week. Just as they did last week, when the Colts held Charvarius Ward out of practice and the game, they are taking the same approach with Pierce. With him out, the Colts will now turn to Adonai Mitchell in his place.

Many believe Mitchell has the most individual talent of any WR on the Colts roster, but his start to the NFL has come with some bumps in the road due to drops during his rookie year. He will now have the chance to step up and show the team how much he has grown as a player, filling in for Pierce and potentially demonstrating that he can also be a deep play threat in the Colts’ offense.

Moore II suffered a calf injury in Week 3, which the Colts are now referring to as an Achilles injury. Achilles injuries aren’t to be taken lightly, and I’m glad to see the Colts are taking it seriously, giving Moore the week off. I honestly think placing him on the IR might have been the right path to take, but they seem to think he won’t need to miss the minimum of four weeks that move would require.

With him out this week, the Colts will elevate veteran CB Mike Hilton from their practice squad, whom they signed this week, to their active roster for Week 4. And he will fill in as the team’s starting slot CB going forward.
