Anthony Richardson has dominated headlines for the Indianapolis Colts and 2023 NFL Draft. CJ Stroud is another quarterback that has generated some smoke regarding Indianapolis and their search for a franchise signal caller.
It seems that a new name is quickly emerging as a quarterback to monitor for the Colts in the weeks leading up to draft weekend. Kentucky quarterback Will Levis is reportedly creating buzz around the league as potentially being the pick for the Colts.
"Will Levis and the Colts, there is a little bit of buzz leaguewide about that pairing at No. 4 overall," said ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, via Scott Polacek of Bleacher Report. "I texted with Kentucky coach Mark Stoops, who coached Levis for a few years with the Wildcats, he said, 'I can just say the Colts have done their homework on Levis' and left it at that."
Levis is a big-armed quarterback with experience playing in the SEC. He has showcased the ability to push the ball down the field and is athletic enough to make plays out of structure.
Inconsistencies is one reason why Levis is such a polarizing prospect. But there is no denying that he has a ton of intriguing traits and potential upside, too.
"Now, they've done their homework on a lot of guys, but I talked to several teams who believe that there could be something there," Fowler continued. "He fits the prototype of what the Colts have typically liked in a quarterback. They like that big, sturdy, pocket-passer. So, he's got that in spades."
In the end, Levis will have a different evaluation from team-to-team. He could go as high as No. 3 overall, or he could slide a bit on draft night. However, Indianapolis is a possible landing spot for the first-round signal caller.
"He's not for everybody. Not every team has loved his makeup or the way he plays, but he's got a lot of supporters as well," said Fowler.
The Indianapolis Colts are in desperate search of a franchise quarterback. It appears that Will Levis is the newest name generating smoke for the team leading up to the NFL Draft.
