We are less than two weeks away from the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit.
And the Indianapolis Colts are finishing their last wave of pre-draft visits with prospects in this year's class.
On Friday, they hosted one of the most electric players, Texas WR Xavier Worthy.
Worthy returned to the city where he made history just over a month ago by running the fastest 40-yard dash in the history of the NFL Scouting Combine in 4.21 seconds. Worthy measured in just over 5'11" at the Scouting Combine, and his most recent weigh-in at his Pro Day has him at 169 LBs. This build is not one the Colts have typically prioritized at WR in the draft, but GM Chris Ballard made it clear after the season that he wants to get more "explosive" on offense, and Worthy's speed would do just that.
Worthy may not have set records with his vertical and broad jump at the Scouting Combine, but both were elite for a WR, especially one at his size with a 41" vertical and 10'11" broad jump. Many may view Worthy as a slot-only WR due to him coming in just under 6 feet and his next-level speed, but I view Worthy as a player who can play on the outside in the Z WR role as well as lining up in the slot as a Y. His long speed is just as impressive as his 40 time and he's an elite deep ball tracker, which projects him to be one of the top WRs in this class in terms of taking the top-off defenses at the pro level.
If the Colts select Worthy in the 2024 NFL Draft, they would have a solid four-WR tandem with him, Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs, and Alec Pierce. It would open up some flexibility with three of their top four WRs having the ability to line up in the slot or on the outside. It would also give them three WRs who ran faster than a 4.5 40, with Pittman Jr.'s 40 time missing the mark by a tad at 4.52.
- Josh Downs – 4.48
- Alec Pierce – 4.41
- Xavier Worthy – 4.21
