Colts players speak on falling short of the playoffs yet again

Jonathan Taylor, RB

"Once you make it in your first year you don't think its easy but you're like okay hey we have a chance we made it my first year. Year after year you do realize how hard it is. In my first year I didn't know how hard it was, but when you start rolling I think we were 11-5 that year, I think everybody was like 11-5 that year. But you realize how tough it is and how much every game matters and they usually don't matter until the end which is why every game matters."

"Every year every team is different. Like next week will be the last time all 53 guys in the locker room are here. Thats the reality of the business, and like you mentioned, when you have a season and it doesnt turn out how you want it can be more changes than usual. You just have to continue to be a professional you have to continue to put your best foot forward. But that's unfortunately the reality of this business."

DeForest Buckner, DT

"We came up short, I'm gonna be honest as the entire team we shit the bed. Another year and its frustrating, I can see what we have but we aren't getting over that hump. It's little details that we are missing that's hurting us."

"The guys we have in the locker room I know the type of guys we have in that locker room. We have a lot of guys in that locker room that care a lot, tremendously about this team, this organization this city. We want to put a product out there that this city is proud of. And for it to not go the way we want it to go is frustrating."

"It's definitely on us, big moments where we fell short. We shot ourselves in the foot multiple times throughout the season. Obviously a lot more downs than ups and that's the most and that's fully on us and that's fully on us. Thats the most frustrating part about it, especially early on in a lot of one score games that were losses in moments where we just make one or two plays we come out with a W but we didn't. And that's the frustrating part about the whole entire season."

"Theres going to be people that are still in the building people that are not. Changes are going to need to be made. I understand that, and we all understand that in the building, you have to make those changes for the better."

– Colts DT DeForest Buckner

Hearing two of the team's most prominent leaders sound so defeated and disappointed after the team was eliminated from the playoffs after their loss in Week 17 was necessary to show fans that these guys care about the product put on the field. They even seem to realize change is probably coming for this team. Is that change in the locker room, the coaching staff, the front office, or all of the above? We will have to wait and see, but the Colts can't afford for things to stay as they are. Something is causing a major disconnect with this team and how they operate. They don't resemble any football team in the league that has had major success in recent memory. If they stay on their current path, they risk losing their fan base and potentially notable players in the locker room who aren't contributing to the culture problems.
