The Indianapolis Colts gave most of their starters a rest day during their Week 2 preseason win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Multiple players battling for roster spots stepped up and gave strong individual performances. With all 32 NFL teams having to reduce their rosters to 53 by Tuesday, April 27, at 4 PM EST, it couldn't have come at a better time.

After looking over the entire roster, three players stood out to me as players the Colts could cut, which would shock fans.

3 surprise Colts players who could get cut next week

Indianapolis Colts tight end Jelani Woods (80) is tackled by Denver Broncos safety JL Skinner (34) and cornerback Art Green (28) during the second half of a preseason game Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The Broncos defeated the Colts 34-30.

Jelani Woods

Fans were ecstatic when the Colts selected TE Jelani Woods in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Woods put on a clinic at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine, and his impeccable athletic profile had many projecting him to be the next big thing at the TE position. After a modest rookie season, Woods was forced to miss his entire sophomore year due to a lingering hamstring injury. And since returning this year, he's struggled to stand out from the team's other TEs on the roster throughout training camp and the preseason. The Colts have five TEs who all have a solid case to earn one of the team's roster spots, and when it comes to Woods, the team will have to choose if they value the potential he holds over the play other TEs can provide right now.

Ashton Dulin

Going into training camp, I thought the Colt's top six WRs were set in stone to make their 53-man roster. But with Dulin returning from a torn ACL last training camp, he's been unable to put together a strong showing. His ability on special teams is evident, but with players like D.J. Montgomery and Laquon Treadwell having successful showing in training camp and the preseason, I think it's fair to question whether or not the team would choose to part ways with Dulin.

Rodney Thomas II

The Colts thought they found a diamond in the rough after Rodney Thomas II, their seventh-round pick in 2022, started ten games his rookie season. Many projected him to make a big sophomore jump in 2023, but sadly, that didn't come to fruition. Thomas II showed himself to be a liability at the free safety position and found himself benched in multiple games as the team tried to find stable play out of the position. He entered training camp this year in a battle for the teams starting FS job, but it was noticeable early into camp that the job was Nick Cross' to lose. And he simply never did. Now Thomas II is competing for a roster spot, and I honestly wouldn't be shocked if the team decided to part ways with Thomas and look to the waiver wire following roster cuts to find a serviceable backup behind Cross.
