With training camp around the corner, worry around the league was starting to pile up due to the majority of second-round picks from the 2025 NFL Draft remaining unsigned at the start of the week.
Thankfully, the dam finally broke and contracts between second-round picks and NFL teams began flooding in, one of which was the Indianapolis Colts and the 45th pick in the draft, J.T. Tuimoloau. With Tuimoloau signed, the Colts' entire 2025 rookie class is now signed and ready to roll for their first training camp. The big question surrounding Tuimoloau's contract now is how much of it was guaranteed. After all, the reason for the standstill between second-round picks and NFL teams was that players wanted their contracts to be fully guaranteed.
Just a day after his singing being announced, the terms of Tuimoloau's rookie deal are already up on Spotrac. This deal was negotiated by Tuimoloau's agent, Ryan Williams of Athletes First. He signed a four year deal worth $9,942,466. The deal also includes a $3,870,888 signing bonus and gives Tuimoloau an average salary of $2,485,617. $8,751,358 of the contract is guaranteed, which means just over 88% of his rookie contract is guaranteed. This is nearly 12% more in guarantees than the 45th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft (Edgerrin Cooper) received. Interestingly enough, Tuimoloau got a higher % of his contract guaranteed than Donovan Ezeiruaku (86.4%), who the Dallas Cowboys selected one pick ahead of him at 44. This is a solid deal for Tuimoloau and a win overall for second-round picks across the league. They laid some great groundwork to help future second-round picks earn fully guaranteed contracts, even if the majority of them ultimately agreed to deals below that threshold this year.
