Jaguars Struggles in Indianapolis

Coming into this game, the Jaguars have lost five straight games vs. the Colts in Indianapolis. Their struggles in Indianapolis don't stop there, as they are only 1-9 in their last ten games played there. With their only win in that span coming in 2017.

Colts Week 1 Win Drought

Coming into this game, the Colts have not won a Week 1 matchup since 2013, when the team beat the at the time Oakland Raiders 21-17. The team is coming off their best Week 1 result in that span, with a tie against the Houston Texans last season 20-20.

Opponent Player Spotlight of the Week:

Calvin Ridley

This week, Colts head coach Shane Steichen had high praise for new Jaguars WR Calvin Ridley.

"He's an eletric route runner. For me personally I think he is one of the best in the league as a route runner. He's explosive, has great hands he can set up defenders. The way he runs his route he is like a basketball player in and out breaks with his feet. We have to be on it with him."

– Indianapolis Colts Head Coach Shane Steichen

Ridley will attempt to get his Jaguars career started with a bang in Week 1, and it'll be on the Colts young secondary to halt those plans. Starting outside corner Darell Baker Jr. will likely be lined up with Ridley the most on Sunday, which is a challenging task for Baker Jr.'s first snaps as a starter in the NFL.

The team has been very impressed by Baker Jr.'s jump in training camp and the preseason, and they believe he is up for the task of slowing down Ridley and the rest of the Jaguars WRs. We will have to wait and see tomorrow to see if they are right or wrong in that regard.

Colts Player Spotlight of the Week:

Anthony Richardson

A new era in Indianapolis Colts football begins tomorrow as 2023 1st-round pick Anthony Richardson will begin his tenure as the team's starting QB. You wouldn't notice that Richardson is preparing for this life-changing feat, as when he was asked, his answer was all business:

"It's game week, I have to be on top of my A game. I got to be on point with the team and myself. Really just focusing on the details and getting ready for Week 1."

– Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson

He isn't taking the opportunity lightly, as head coach Shane Steichen shared with he media that Richardson was in the office for 8 hours on the team's off day of Monday this week. For Richardson, being here on the off day is just a part of his job as QB 1:

"Coming in on a off-day, I think that is a part of the job. Putting in extra work and getting ready for the same. I know other people are putting in extra, my teammates are putting in extra work because I see them in the building as well. So it's just a matter of me doing the same thing and getting ready for Week 1."

– Indianpaolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson

Richardson will now attempt to become just the first rookie QB to lead his team to a Week 1 victory since 2018, when Sam Darnold led the New York Jets to a 48-17 win over the Detroit Lions.
