It was chilly with a slight drizzle of rain in Westfield, IN, for Colts training camp Sunday, but that didn't stop a packed house of fans from showing their support.
With the team's preseason opener less than a week away, the Colts have been picking up practice intensity in preparation.
What were the biggest takeaways from the defensive side of the ball?
Injuries piling up

This time of year, the worst thing to be is injured. And the Colts' defense has multiple key players already missing time due to injury. Some players who were out today included:
- DeForest Buckner
- Samson Ebukam
- Kenny Moore II
- Julian Blackmon
- Tyquan Lewis
And to add a name, 2nd-year safety, Rodney Thomas left practice today with an injury. Hopefully, the team will be able to get multiple of these guys back to full health prior to week 1 of the season.
Kwity Paye and Dayo Odeyingbo as the starting ends

When speaking with team reps during the offseason, I kept being told how excited they were to see Kwity Paye and Dayo Odeyingbo as the team’s starting edge rushers.
Today in camp, the two looked really solid off the edge, both looking quicker than in years past. With Bradley's defense, there is heavy importance in getting to the QB while rushing with four, and Kwity and Dayo's progressions will be huge for that happening.
Darrell Baker Jr. contunies to shine

Darell Baker Jr. has been a pleasant surprise so far through Colts training camp. He's been a steady member of the teams' starters at corner, and many of his teammates and coaches are starting to give him his flowers any chance they can.
LB Zaire Franklin spoke to what he's seen in Baker Jr. by saying, "That's a young player that's always in the right spot. Always knows what to do, always making plays, man. He doesn't shy away from competition."
Colts head coach Shane Steichen shared his thoughts of Baker Jr.'s start to camp by saying, "He's been great in man-to-man coverage. He has good vision, and I love the way he works every day."
The Colts enter a lighter week of training camp as they will only practice twice as they prepare for their 1st preseason game in Buffalo Saturday.
