Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (28) was present but did not dress in pads for the first day of training camp practice Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield, Indiana.

Just when you think you've seen it all during this Jonathan Taylor and Colts standoff, Sunday evening Taylor broke his silence on one of the many rumors surrounding him.

The report Taylor is refuting came from Mike Chappell of Fox59/CBS4 Sports earlier Sunday evening, which involved the Colts entertaining the idea of placing Taylor on the non-football injury list.

What does all of this mean?

Taylor's comments on the manner suggest's the report of a back injury that was sustained while working out in Arizona is false. And while it may not seem like a lot to some, this report holds much power.

If Taylor did indeed sustain an injury away from football activities with the team, the Colts would be within their rights to place him on the non-football injury list. This would then allow the Colts to not pay Taylor for the 2023 season and push the last year of his rookie contract to 2024. While also keeping the ability to franchise tag the RB twice following his rookie deal being completed.

The Colts-Jonathan Taylor saga is far from over, with so many things still left to be figured out. The next dominos Colts fans should be looking out for would be:

  1. Did Taylor sustain a back injury away from the team?
  2. Would the Colts place Taylor on the non-football injury list?
  3. What will Taylor do if he is cleared for practice activities?
