Way too early 2026 NFL Mock Draft has the Colts end the Anthony Richarson experiment by drafting Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava

"This one might be a bit premature for the Colts, but if Anthony Richardson fails to complete even 50% of his passes and tosses more interceptions than touchdowns again next season then his athletic upside just frankly won't matter anymore.

Nico Iamaleava showed flashes of greatness in 2024 and frankly already played better than Richardson ever did in college. He needs to continue showing his impressive mobility while improving the consistency as an accurate downfield thrower against his toughest competition, but first round capital is certainly within his possible 2026 NFL Draft outcomes."

A to Z Sports Way To Early 2026 NFL Mock Draft

Just two years after drafting Anthony Richardson with the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, this mock draft has the Colts moving on by selecting a new quarterback in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. This would give Richardson three years with the team to prove whether or not the team should believe in him to be their franchise QB.

Some may say this would be too early to move on from him; I don't necessarily agree, though. If he doesn't show needed improvements in year three in terms of accuracy and the ability to hit the layups, it would be fair to decide he isn't cut out to be a starting NFL QB. The problem I have with this mock is the player they land on replacing him with is Tennessee's Nico Iamaleava.

Iamaleava's film this past year at Tennessee is pretty uninspiring to watch. In his sophomore year and first season as a full-time starter, he threw for only 2,616 yards, 19 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He had four games this season where he didn't throw a single touchdown and had four games with just one. In fact, 11 of his 19 touchdowns came against Chattanooga, Texas-El Paso, and Vanderbilt. Unless he shows significant improvements next year, I have a hard time seeing him becoming a first-round draft pick.

The Colts seem to be telling us where on their roster they want to upgrade at before the 2025 season with a recent shocking hire

Following the 2024 season, the Indianapolis Colts decided they needed a change on the defensive side of the ball, so they parted ways with defensive coordinator Gus Bradley. After an extensive search involving multiple impressive candidates, the Colts hired Lou Anarumo as their new defensive coordinator, pointing to a drastic change in the team's defensive philosophy.  Anarumo is […]
