A day many inside the Indianapolis Colts organization have been anticipating could be on the horizon.

NFL Network's NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared the following update involving Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds.

Over the past few years, the Colts and their fans have been expecting one of Dodds or Morocco Brown to land a GM job elsewhere in the NFL. And each year, they've been pleasantly surprised at their ability to retain both on Chris Ballard's front office staff here in Indianapolis.

What makes Rapoport's update even more interesting is that he elected to share that if the Raiders had hired a GM separate from their head coaching hire in 2022, it would have been Dodds. Instead, they paired former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels with his college teammate and former Patriot executive Dave Ziegler.

Dodds has also been requested to interview for the Carolina Panthers opening at their GM position. But there has been nowhere near as much smoke around him being offered or accepting that position. Dodds has been notably picky while interviewing for GM jobs. He has pulled out of multiple searches himself if he doesn't feel the situation is right for him. With this type of report coming out now, the possibility of the Colts losing Dodds seems to be at an all-time high. If Dodds lands the GM job, it'll be interesting to see if they allow him to personally pick the next Raiders head coach or if they still would lean toward giving their interim stand-out Antonio Pierce.
