Lucas Oil Stadium went silent for a moment in Week 13 as fans of the Indianapolis Colts saw their team’s star CB Sauce Gardner down with an injury.

The replay showed it was a non-contact injury, which raised serious concerns about a significant injury. Gardner was helped to the sideline and then to the locker room, as he couldn’t put weight on his leg. He was ruled out before half-time, and now NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero has the update Colts fans have been waiting for.

Sauce Gardner seems to have avoided a major injury

The instant worry for people who saw the injury was that Gardner may have torn his Achilles. So hearing that the initial belief is that he avoided a major injury and that the current diagnosis of it being a calf stain feels like a win for the Colts. This doesn’t mean he won’t miss time as the severity of the calf strain will decide his fate.

CB Kenny Moore II had to miss four weeks earlier this season due to a calf injury. The Colts are entering a make-or-break point in their season. They’ve lost two straight and are 8-4 in the year. Their lead in the AFC South has completely vanished, and they are traveling to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14.

The team has to, of course, prioritize Gardner’s long-term health. We will likely hear their plan from head coach Shane Steichen on Monday. The hope now that we know he avoided a season-ender is that the team doesn’t feel the need to place him on IR, which would force him to miss a minimum of four games.
